Offshore wind marine support

Marine support for offshore wind projects from the Port of Ferrol: escort and assistance for blade and component transport, securing and handling of parts, pontoon transport and support boats.

Key points of the service

  • Based in the Port of Ferrol

  • Own pontoons and support boats

  • Experience with oversized components

  • Coordination with shipyards and the Port Authority

The Port of Ferrol and offshore wind

The Port of Ferrol has become a reference point for the manufacture and logistics of offshore wind structures and components: towers, foundations, substations and oversized parts are built and loaded out at its berths and at the shipyards of the ría. Our job is to provide the marine support those operations need on the water.

What we do

Escort and assistance for component transport

Escort and assistance boats during the marine transport of blades, towers and other long components between the storage area and the installation vessels, with manoeuvres coordinated with the shipyard, the terminal and the Port Authority. We choose the weather window with the client and accompany the operation from start to finish.

Securing and handling of parts

Support for securing, lashing and handling blades, nacelles and auxiliary items (lifting lugs, feet, covers) on board and on the quay, with our crews and with the lifting equipment of our boats and crane trucks.

Pontoon transport

Transport of components and equipment on our pontoons, with proper sea lashing, to the load-out point or to the installation site in the ría. The pontoons also serve as floating work platforms alongside the vessel or structure.

Support for unloading and assembly

Boats and crews during the unloading of turbines and components on the quay and during assembly manoeuvres in the port.

Crew and material transfer

Transfer of technicians and material to installation vessels and platforms anchored in the ría, with the same marine transport service we provide to the rest of the port.

How we organise it

Each campaign starts with a planning meeting with the client: vessel schedule, components to move, planned manoeuvres and risks. We then assign boats, pontoons and crews, prepare the permits with the Port Authority and set the communication channels with the vessel, the terminal and the tugs. During the operation each skipper is in permanent contact with the manoeuvre leader; afterwards we deliver the service report with hours, resources and incidents.

Experience

We have provided marine support for the transport of long wind turbine blades from the storage area to installation vessels in the port, for turbine unloading on the quay and for continuous logistic supply to vessels under construction and repair at the shipyards of the ría.

FAQ

Can you work outside the ría of Ferrol? Our base is Ferrol, but the pontoons and boats travel to other ports in Galicia and northern Spain for specific campaigns.

Component campaign ahead?

Tell us dates, components and vessels involved and we will prepare the support resources.
